“Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think anything as of ourselves; but our sufficiency is of God.”
(2 Corinthians 3:5, KJV)

Looking back, I marvel at God’s grace that has preserved me through countless dangers. I remember an incident nearly 53 years ago when I was 13 years old in a secondary school. Instead of attending school, I followed a group of wayward friends into the forest. There, in the depths of disobedience, I had a near-death experience that could have ended my life.

As we ventured deeper into the forest, I knelt for a moment, and unknowingly a black snake came up behind me. It raised its head, poised to strike. At that moment, one of my friends noticed the danger and quickly pulled me forward, saving me from what could have been a fatal snakebite. The snake slithered back into the bushes, and I was left trembling. My friends urged me to inform my parents and offer prayers of thanksgiving, but fear gripped me. I was terrified of their anger and the punishment I might receive for skipping school.

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”
(Revelation 12:11, KJV)

As I reflect on that day, I see the undeniable hand of God at work. Despite my youthful rebellion and disobedience, His grace protected me. Over the years, my life has been filled with ups and downs, but God’s mercy has never failed me.

“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”
(2 Corinthians 12:9, NIV)

His grace has carried me through the sins of my youth, my rebellion, and my moments of failure. He has remained my Good Shepherd, guiding me through life’s darkest valleys. In Him, I lack nothing. He prepares a table before me in the presence of my enemies, anoints my head with oil, and fills my cup to overflowing.

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”
(Psalm 23:1, KJV)Even as I face the sorrow of losing my daughter, I find comfort in God’s promise of eternal life. I know she is at peace, resting in the presence of the Lord, awaiting the day when Christ will return to take His children home.

“Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
(Psalm 23:6, KJV)

I thank God for His unfailing love, His unending mercy, and the sacrifice of His Son, Jesus Christ, who bore my sins on the cross. By His grace, I am saved, not by my works but by faith in the One who loved me and gave Himself for me.

“For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.”
(Ephesians 2:8–9, NIV)

May His goodness and mercy continue to follow me and my family all the days of our lives, and may we dwell in His presence forever.
