All of Satan’s forces and the enemies of the sovereign Lord were defeated on the cross and made a public spectacle by our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ (Colossians 2:15). At the name of Jesus, which is above every other name in heaven, on earth, and under the earth, every knee will bow, and every tongue will confess that Jesus Christ is Lord (Philippians 2:9-11). At the mention of His name, demons tremble and flee from His wrath. The earth quakes, and nature bows before Him, for He has been given all authority in heaven and on earth (Matthew 28:18).
The name of Jesus is one that Satan does not want to hear. At its mention, he flees, for it is in this name that we call upon the Lord to save us from our troubles, pains, and daily trials. As redeemed children of God saved by grace (Ephesians 2:8-9), we do not rely on self-motivation or our own feeble strength. Instead, as it is written: "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit," says the Lord Almighty (Zechariah 4:6). We walk by faith, not by sight (2 Corinthians 5:7).
Christ our Lord does not only sit at the right hand of God, interceding for all His children (Romans 8:34), but He also lives within us. His presence, His rod, and His staff comfort and protect us in all our trials and afflictions (Psalm 23:4). When we call on His name, the name above all names, we are saved, for as Scripture says: "Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved" (Romans 10:13).
We have overcome the world, for we are from God. Greater is He who is in us than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). As we bow down and take up our cross daily (Luke 9:23), our Lord has promised to rescue and protect us. He will be with us in trouble, and He will hear and answer when we call upon His name (Psalm 91:15).
Our Lord, the Good Shepherd, is Emmanuel—God with us (Matthew 1:23). He has promised never to leave us or forsake us (Hebrews 13:5). The same power that raised Jesus Christ from the dead and exalted Him above all rulers, authorities, powers, and dominions (Ephesians 1:20-21) now lives in us. This power enables us to endure trials, tribulations, and challenges in a world marred by disobedience and rebellion against God’s righteous and loving commands.
